Sesame Crusted Tuna Steaks

  • 5-6 tuna steaks
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 2 tsp. fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. white sesame seeds
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 C. soy sauce
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1/4 C. black sesame seeds
  • 1/4 C. white sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Sriracha (optional)

In a large resealable ziplock bag, combine garlic, ginger, sugar, 1 Tbsp. white sesame seeds, sesame oil, lemon juice, soy sauce and green onion. Add tuna steaks and marinate 30 minutes, turning once.

On a plate, combine black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds and pepper. Remove tuna steaks from marinade (reserving marinade) and pat dry. Press tuna steaks onto sesame seed mixture on all sides until coated, set aside.

Heat remaining marinade over medium high heat to reduce and thicken, about 10 minutes, stirring. Add Sriracha if using. Lower heat to a simmer while you cook the steaks.

Heat vegetable oil over medium high heat, once shimmering add the tuna steaks. Cook about 3-4 minutes per side, depending on how pink you like them.

Serve steaks with sauce drizzled over them.
