Mushroom, Swiss, and Carmalized Onion Burgers


  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • Salt
    and Pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle Seasoning (or a different spicy seasoning blend)
  • 4 Slices swiss cheese
  • 1 8oz package white mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 Sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • Olive oil
  • jalapenos (optional)
  • Your favorite bbq sauce

Add first 6 ingredients in a bowl. Using your hands, mix it all together so the seasonings are evenly distributed through the beef. Form into patties and set aside.

Add about 2 Tbsp. olive oil to a pan over medium heat. Add onions and stir to coat with oil, sprinkle with salt. Reduce heat to low and cook onions, stirring occassionally, until they are a deep golden brown, about 45 min to an hour. Remember, carmalized onions are not ‘browned onions’. In a separate pan, add about 2 Tbsp. of olive oil over medium heat. Add mushrWIN_20160507_19_10_36_Proooms and cook until they have released their juices and have reduced in size.

Lightly coat a grill with more olive oil and preheat over medium heat. When grill is ready, place burgers and grill and cook until desired doneness. Just before they are done cooking, top with mushrooms, onions, jalapenos (if using), and then swiss cheese.

Once the cheese is nice and melted remove from grill. Grill hamburger buns until a nice golden brown, place burger on the bottom half, top with bbq sauce (or any other sauce you prefer), and top with top half of bun. Enjoy!
