Bacon Sloppy Joes

A nice twist on the classic. Serve with fries and salad for a great meal!









  • 1 1/2lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2tsp. garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 C. onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 C. ketchup
  • 3/4 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 1/2Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 C. apple cider vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • hamburger buns
  • 6 strips thick cut bacon, cooked and torn into pieces
  • cheese of your choice, we used pepper jack

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Once melted, quickly add the onion and stir occasionally until translucent. Add the peppers and garlic and stir occasionally for 1 minute then add the ground beef and break it up with a wooden spoon, stirring it all together. Allow to cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the brown sugar, mustard, worcestershire, liquid smoke, chili powder, and paprika. Stir for 30 seconds and then add the ketchup and vinegar. Allow to cook for 5 minutes, season to taste, add bacon, and cook up to 1 hour on low.

Toast buns.

Top each bun with sloppy joe mix, top again with slices of cheese. Broil until cheese is melted.
